Dr. Esther
Onyoni PharmD
Director
Welcome to
The Women's Health Education Center (WHEC).
My name is Esther Onyoni. I was born and grew up in Kisii,
Kenya. After high school in 1997, I came to the United States
and went on to college at University of North Carolina at
Charlotte.
I got my undergraduate degree in Chemistry in 2002. I then
joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I’m
currently a 4th year Pharmacy student. At Chapel
Hill, I was a member and the webmaster in the Student National
pharmaceutical Association and a member of CAPS.
Once introduced to the Pharmacists for Africa organization, I
knew I had found the organization that I truly belong in. I am
the representative of the women’s health education center in the
Tafarki Foundation Health Resource Center. I am also the
representative of the East African region which I’m glad to
serve.
Women are
increasingly becoming the back bone for the development of a
healthy African continent. Yet No continent has shown a lack of
attention to the
devastating
effects of a poor women health education system like
Africa. A combination of factors such as a low level of
education on basic hygiene practices have led to a low level of
awareness on the devastating effects of disease states.
At the
Women Health
Education Center, African Pharmacist, friends of Africans and
friends of Africa are coming together to bring awareness to a
population that is threatened.
